Kelly Hoppen Collaboration

Collaborating with globally-renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen CBE on several new product ranges was both a privilege and a rewarding experience for Joseph Giles.  

Kelly has won numerous prestigious awards and accolades throughout her career, including being named ‘Most Influential Female Interior Designer’ by several leading publications and appearing on Vogue magazine’s list of 100 Inspirational Women. She has worked on thousands of breath-taking projects which span the past 4 decades.  

Following a design philosophy of creating harmonious spaces based on Eastern cultures, Kelly’s ever-evolving style has played its part in transforming the industry. Her vision is defined by an ingenious mix of clean lines and her trademark ‘Perfect Neutral’ tones, instinctively balanced with a luscious warmth. 

The talented team at Kelly Hoppen Interiors have been much sought after for bespoke commissions at luxurious residences, hotels, yachts, private jets and more. Her exclusive projects include the futuristic One Shenzhen Bay skyscraper community in China and Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Class ship, which has redefined sea travel.  

Kelly was awarded a CBE in October 2020 for her work in helping to promote British creativity, business, and commerce internationally, values that Joseph Giles hold close to their hearts. 

It was Kelly’s microscopic attention to detail that really resonated with our team. The tiny aglet of a shoelace provided inspiration for her design, which sees a sleek and shiny clasp gripping tightly onto a smooth cylindrical lever or pull handle.  

Just a slender gap is visible in the clasp, but it’s enough to catch the eye beautifully and deliver an element of style that is uniquely Kelly Hoppen.    

All products in the Clasp range are made with the finest grade solid brass and available in all Joseph Giles signature finishes.

During the product development phase, our design team was put to task with the C-shaped clasp. However, they found it bent outwards whenever the bolt fixing the stem to the grip was tightened. Never deterred by a challenge, our highly-skilled team was able to reverse engineer the design to mean the clasp was tightened along with the bolt, which helped uphold the concept of a delicate gap while assuring a solid mounting.

The contemporary yet classic feel of this Kelly Hoppen design is derived from the geometric shapes – one angular and orthogonal, one cylindrical and smooth – locked together to form immaculate lines that draw the attention to the intersection. 

To allow the perfect fit with your design project, choose from any of the signature Joseph Giles finishes, either as a single, bold colour or a captivating two-tone combination of finishes.  

Unsightly screwheads posed a problem regarding this snug, minimalist design, but our design team were able to overcome it with some carefully-placed brass panels.

Characteristic clear and simple geometry is employed by Kelly Hoppen to form the defining features of the ‘Dot’ range.   

An interconnecting pin between the stem and grip of a door handle helped influence the design concept. It is represented as a small but striking circle bisecting a straight line, etched neatly into the side.

What appeared to be an uncomplicated design at first glance proved relatively demanding to manufacture. Engraving the dot detail on a curved surface necessitated a specialist CNC machine with the ability to change axes throughout the high-precision drilling process.
