Our Alexander range is inspired by fine British silverware and its history. In particular, the city of Sheffield has been famous for its production of cutlery since the 17th century.
The style of cutlery that inspired us was the Grecian pattern, with its cut-off corner style and single bevelled edge, first designed and made in Sheffield in 1929.
If you're wondering which finish type to select, here's the key difference: living finishes gently patinate and change over time, ageing gracefully, whilst ageless finishes are either naturally unchanging, or boast a protective ceramic coating which mean the finish stays consistent.

Our thumb turns are made from finest grade solid brass and are hand-finished in all the standard Joseph Giles finishes.
Thumb turns are used in conjunction with a privacy lock & an emergency release (each supplied separately) and are usually installed on a hinged WC/bathroom door.
A thumb turn is fitted to the inside of a WC door and is twisted clockwise to engage a privacy lock and anti-clockwise to disengage a privacy lock, whilst an emergency release is installed on the outside of the door and can be used in the event of an emergency to open the door.
They are supplied as single items with an inner rose, a decorative cover rose, the necessary fixings and a 5mm square spindle.
