A restored 19th-century townhouse designed for contemporary family living in Lisbon.

Located in Lisbon's Príncipe Real district, this historic townhouse has been reimagined as a contemporary family home by McLean Quinlan, with interiors by Valeria Cardoso. Originally arranged as a series of apartments before being combined into a single residence, the property has been carefully reworked to bring a greater sense of warmth, intimacy and purpose to its generous interior spaces.

Central to the design is a carefully curated palette of natural materials, bringing warmth and texture to the interiors. Bespoke architectural elements help define a series of more intimate living spaces, creating a home that feels both calm and connected while strengthening the relationship between the architecture, garden and natural light.

Working closely with McLean Quinlan, Joseph Giles previously developed a bespoke lever handle that has since been featured across several of their projects. In this home, the understated design sits comfortably alongside the Douglas fir joinery and carefully crafted architectural detailing throughout. Finished in Brushed Brass Waxed and Brushed Nickel, the bespoke lever contributes to the overall sense of cohesion and quiet refinement.
