A Holistic Range of Products in Matching Finishes

It can be a real headache to match or co-ordinate finishes on hardware pieces sourced from different manufacturers. Anyone who works as a professional interior designer or has worked on their own home renovation knows how hard it can be to find matching finishes. This is often because decorative door hardware, such as lever handles, is often made from a different base metal than functional items like bolts, locks and latches.

Read on to discover why it's worth working with a hardware partner who always applies their finishes to the same grade solid brass, for a matching, consistent finish across every product.

An emphasis on quality

At Joseph Giles, we're passionate about making our products out of solid brass. It's a wonderful material to work with, malleable and versatile, offering a huge range of design possibilities.

All of our handles and decorative hardware that we make ourselves are manufactured from machine-grade solid brass. For more functional items like locks and pivots, which we don't manufacture ourselves, we make solid brass cover plates to ensure that everything on the door can be finished to match exactly.

We go to great lengths to ensure that finishes match precisely across different products. Unusually for the hardware industry, you'll find the same CZ121 grade of brass is used for every product we machine. CZ121 offers the highest machinability of any copper alloy, and using it for every products means that every time our team hand-finishes a part, the finish is applied to the same surface type, with the same standard of appearance.

The end result makes it all worth it, enabling us to offer a comprehensive hardware range, with our signature finishes available across every solid brass product in the collection.

Details make the difference

Working with a single partner on your hardware package cuts down significantly on procurement and sourcing time, as it eliminates the need to reach out to multiple companies for different hardware elements and finishes. This approach streamlines the process, making sourcing more time efficient.

A holistic range of products, available in all the same finish options, gives you the creative freedom to curate and tailor finishes throughout the home, or mix and match for effect. For example, a split finish door into a bathroom can feature polished nickel on one side and a living finish like dark bronze waxed on the outside of the door.

Choosing a hardware company who finishes their own products ensures quality assurance, as they control the entire process. At Joseph Giles, every part we finish goes through stringent quality checks. If it doesn't pass, we re-finish it in our in-house finishing booths.

Hardware finish offerings are highly specific from company to company: an antique brass finish from one manufacturer can vary hugely to the same finish from another. By sourcing your decorative handles from the same place as your locks and hinges, you can be sure that everything on the door will match perfectly.

The power of partnering with experts

Whilst we make all our decorative products from brass, some functional hardware products need to be security-rated. This includes products such as euro cylinders and multi-point locks, which are made by specialist manufacturers, often from durable materials like steel. We advise picking a hardware company with a strong relationship with their euro cylinder or lock manufacturer, and are able to provide the best possible finish match between their decorative products and security rated products. For example, at Joseph Giles we partner with a euro cylinder manufacturer who offer a version of mid-antique brass waxed on their cylinders which is exclusive to us.

Working with a partner who offers the same finishes across their full product range gives you the freedom of choice and creativity, whilst knowing that the delivered hardware pieces will fit perfectly (functionally as well as aesthetically) with the planned design for the project.
