Beginning as a quest for a lever handle that can be comfortably approached from the end (consider when you're approaching a door from the side rather than front on), a visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum in Kensington found us drawn to the ancient pestle & mortar - ergonomic in its very purpose - forming a shorter lever with a comfortably bulbous end.


In use for over thousands of years, first by the Kebaran culture in the Levant, the minimal change to the form of a pestle and mortar over time is a testament to its truly functional design. 


These features have been translated into the gentle scoop of the rose of this euro cylinder profile escutcheon, mirroring the design of the Levant lever handle.
