Beginning as a quest for a lever handle that can be comfortably approached from the end (consider when you're approaching a door from the side rather than front on), a visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum in Kensington found us drawn to the ancient pestle & mortar - ergonomic in its very purpose - forming a shorter lever with a comfortably bulbous end.
In use for over thousands of years, first by the Kebaran culture in the Levant, the minimal change to the form of a pestle and mortar over time is a testament to its truly functional design.
These features have been translated into the gentle scoop of the rose of this emergency coin release, mirroring the design of the Levant lever handle.
If you're wondering which finish type to select, here's the key difference: living finishes gently patinate and change over time, ageing gracefully, whilst ageless finishes are either naturally unchanging, or boast a protective ceramic coating which mean the finish stays consistent.
Details
Our emergency releases are made from finest grade solid brass and are hand-finished in all the standard Joseph Giles finishes.
Emergency releases are used in conjunction with a privacy lock & thumb turn (each supplied separately) and are usually installed on a hinged WC/bathroom door.
An emergency release is installed on the outside of the door and can be used in the event of an emergency to open the door. A thumb turn is fitted to the inside of a WC door and is twisted clockwise to engage a privacy lock and anti-clockwise to disengage a privacy lock.
They are supplied as single items with an inner rose, a decorative cover rose, and the necessary fixings.
