As a purveyor of luxury details, Joseph Giles understands that even the smallest elements matter. Which is why the Dartington range is inspired by a small, but necessary detail: the strap on a satchel. Satchels, traditionally made from leather, have been a staple of fashion since the Roman times. However, it has great significance in England, as the model developed into the Cambridge-style; which features a pouch with a front flap, held together by two straps. The image of pupils carrying books in Oxbridge campuses, bound together by quality leather, evokes that quintessential British spirit that we love. The strap is the detail that allows books, or other items, to be held in place. And like a door knob or pull, it is often overlooked, but used regularly and vastly important; which is why we have incorporated this inspiration into our Dartington range.
