Considerations for specifying sliding door gear

Our system and its key features
We have recently changed supplier of our sliding door gear, having been attracted by their 75-year heritage of supplying state-of-the-art equipment and extensive in-house capabilities. There are a number of features which caught our attention of which some of the key ones are listed below, because we know these details can make all the difference.
Key feature: Robust track profiles minimise floor deflection and void interference
One such element is the robustness of the extruded aluminium track profiles which, therefore, require very minimal head fixings and are suitable for all pocket doors. This makes them ideal where floor deflection is critical, for example in multi-storey buildings. It also means that the void above the ceiling is virtually free to allow free-running of pipework, ductwork and other M&E services. The weight-carrying capacity of the system is almost entirely transferred down the vertical frame profiles to the floor. As an example, an 80kg version was installed with a span of 1.5m, and the head track only deflected 0.5mm when loaded with 100kg.
Key feature: Low visual impact top track minimise ceiling gap
The designer top track can be used for both 80kg and 120kg doors. With the 80kg door there is only an 18.2mm gap in the ceiling, which increases only to 21.2mm with the 120kg version. Due to its design, luxury finished doors can be installed in the later stages of the project after the track is fitted and the decorating done.
Key feature: Choice of closing and opening mechanisms for up to 120kg
Our system has a range of soft close components that can cope with door leaves up to 120kg in weight which is higher than the industry standard by 40kg. They are also available in one sliding direction, or both. Another option is to specify an auto eject mechanism where the door leaf is installed with its front edge flush with the surrounding frame, and when the front edge is pushed, it retracts slightly before ejecting from the pocket.
Key feature: No site cutting of profiles
Our pocket door kits are made-to-measure, calculated from either the structural opening or door leaf dimensions and should not need any site alteration. Unlike some alternatives, our made-to-measure pocket systems have all the profiles cut to their specific dimensions or pre-drilled /threaded as necessary so there is no need for cutting, drilling or trimming, which can lead to costly on-site errors and delays.
