Making a Subtle Statement: Textured Products in Development
The Joseph Giles team has been hard at work over the summer months developing beautiful new ironmongery to meet the demand for knurled and textured products.
The popular and continued use of natural fibres and textiles and organic shapes in design schemes this year has generated a high demand from architects and interior designers for complementary, luxury ironmongery using handcrafted methods.
To meet this demand, the design team at Joseph Giles has expanded the range to include a new lever handle, with matching cabinet ware.
Due to be completed by December this year, our knurled products require a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail from design conception to manufacture. For the lever handle for example, the challenge lies in finding the ideal point of proportion in the knurling so as not to overpower the actual handle. As Felix Ure, Product Development Manager explains,
“The key is keeping it simple and accenting the aesthetics of the handle so that the knurling doesn’t become the design, but rather complements the design of the handle.”
The result is a well-proportioned, luxurious door handle that is both subtle and statement in styling. Made of solid brass, the textured and tactile finish is pleasing to the touch and ensures a comfortable hold.
